Supporting our Country Fire Service

A Marshall Liberal Government will invest an additional $5 million in the Country Fire Service (CFS) to support long overdue station upgrades.

This funding is in addition to the existing annual contribution through the capital works, vehicles and equipment fund.

“Keeping our communities safe is a high priority for the State Liberals, and our CFS plays a critical role in protecting South Australians from harm,” said State Liberal Leader Steven Marshall.

“We need to ensure the CFS has the capacity and equipment necessary to undertake their work, while maximising the safety of our firefighters.

“With this additional support, stations will be able to repair existing facilities, build new sheds, as well as office and ancillary buildings, and increase their backup power generation capacity.

“For too long the Weatherill Labor Government has neglected the CFS, allowing a significant maintenance backlog to develop and leaving some brigades to operate out of unsuitable facilities.

“Labor’s lack of capital investment in the CFS has meant many brigades have been forced to fundraise themselves to ensure their stations are adequately resourced.

“The CFS is a trusted community-based organisation, dedicated to providing vital fire and emergency services for our outer metropolitan, regional and rural communities.

“Our firefighters put themselves on the frontline to protect us, and deserve the government’s support to continue doing so.

“Likewise, South Australia’s regional and rural communities should be able to trust that if disaster strikes, help is not too far away.

“A Marshall Liberal Government will ensure our CFS stations have the equipment needed to continue the vital work they do on behalf of us all.”
