The Marshall Liberal Team welcomes today’s signing of a $700 million contract to fit combat systems into the Future Submarines, in another boost to the defence sector in SA.
“The announcement of 200 jobs in the critically important defence industry is fantastic news, and the State Liberals welcome the fact that most of those jobs will be delivered here in South Australia,” said Shadow Minister for Industry Corey Wingard.
“The Federal Government’s $90 billion Naval Shipbuilding investment will be crucial to South Australia’s economic and employment fortunes.
“This particular contract with Lockheed Martin will see them partner with Naval Group and is part of $200 billion defence investment over the next decade – South Australia is well placed to capitalise on this investment to ensure we maximise the number of jobs in SA.
“A Marshall Liberal Government will work closely with the defence industry and Federal Government to ensure there is a skilled workforce in place to take up the jobs that will flow out of this contract and the other large defence projects based in SA.
“Our commitment to the defence sector in SA was further strengthened yesterday with the announcement that a Marshall Liberal Government will fund a Defence Industry Employment Program to help transition ex-service personnel and veterans into jobs in the defence industry.
“Today’s announcement complements the State Liberals’ Supporting Our Veterans policy, and it’s exciting news for a state which is in desperate need of investment and jobs after 16 years of an arrogant, out-of-touch State Labor Government.”
