New Chief Executive appointed to SA Housing Authority

The State Government has announced Michael Buchan has been appointed Chief Executive of the SA Housing Authority.

Mr Buchan, currently the Authority’s interim chief executive, has been appointed the position of Chief Executive after a national recruitment process.

Minister for Human Services Michelle Lensink said Mr Buchan was the right person to lead the Authority through a broad housing reform agenda, to achieve better housing outcomes for South Australians.

“As interim chief executive, Michael has overseen the creation of the new Authority, including the transition of staff from Renewal SA and Housing SA,” said Minister Lensink.

“During the past six months he has also overseen social housing developments, the transfer of the management of South Australian Housing Trust stock to the community housing sector, and the early stages of the development of a new Housing and Homelessness Strategy for the state.

“Michael has the vision and ability to guide people through change at a time when we need to think differently about how we provide social and affordable housing.

“With Michael as Chief Executive and a new SA Housing Trust Board, I have every confidence that the SA Housing Authority can work in partnership with the sector to achieve positive change and better housing outcomes for South Australians.”

Mr Buchan has extensive experience in the delivery of private and public sector infrastructure. He has held executive positions in State Government for the past ten years.

Mr Buchan said he was looking forward to leading the Authority as it works more closely with the housing and homelessness sector to address housing challenges.

“There is a lot of work ahead to change the way we tackle the housing challenges facing South Australia,” said Mr Buchan.

“We want to strengthen partnerships to create a system where our organisation works hand in hand with the sector, and the community, to find solutions to shared challenges, and improve housing opportunities for vulnerable and low-income South Australians.”

Mr Buchan said an important priority was the development of a new Housing and Homelessness Strategy for South Australia next year.
