South Australia’s winter events scene is sizzling with a diverse calendar of activities expected to draw beer, barbecue and music lovers into the city over the coming weeks.
July’s festivities kick off with the Adelaide Beer and BBQ Festival and Umbrella Winter City Sounds celebrating South Australia’s culinary, brewing and artistic talents.
The State Government sponsored events are expected to engage tens of thousands of festival-goers.
Adelaide Beer and BBQ Festival organisers anticipate 14,000 attendees over three days and Umbrella has scheduled more than 300 live music events in 100 different venues throughout July.
Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, David Ridgway said South Australia has an exciting program to offer visitors and locals alike this month, and there would be a great energy throughout the city and regions.
“South Australia can be proud of its local music, food and beverage champions, and this month there are lots of opportunities to pop into city venues and enjoy them first hand,” said Minister Ridgway.
“We’ve got a vibrant and diverse music scene and events such as Umbrella Winter City Sounds have helped us secure our position as Australia’s only UNESCO City of Music.”
South Australian Tourism Commission, Chief Executive Rodney Harrex said, Local chef/owner of Africola Duncan Welgemoed is in hot demand after a hugely successful Tasting Australia and as Beer and BBQ festival ambassador you won’t want to miss his culinary influence.
“Add it all together and we’ve got a jam-packed month that will generate traditional and social media buzz for our state while event-goers also support local businesses through much-valued patronage,” said Mr Harrex.
“Domestic travel continues to be the highest contributor to the South Australian visitor economy, so we want locals to embrace winter events and try something new this month.”
The Adelaide Beer and BBQ Festival will coincide with the Royal Adelaide Beer and Cider Awards, as the Umbrella Winter City Sounds festival aligns with the Australian Independent Record Awards and Indie-Con music industry conference.
Later in July, Winter Reds Festival will heat up the Adelaide Hills and Australia’s biggest visual arts festival – South Australian Living Arts – will showcase 9000+ artists across more than 600 events.
