Cooking with gas on the ORAH site

A Marshall Liberal Government will establish an international school of culinary excellence, hospitality and tourism on the old Royal Adelaide Hospital site to elevate Adelaide to the status of a world centre of food culture.

A Marshall Liberal Government will invest $60 million to move the International Centre for Tourism, Hospitality and Food Studies from Regency Park to a state of the art training facility on the east Adelaide site.

“Establishing a new school of culinary excellence adjacent to the city’s cultural and restaurant district will make Adelaide a beacon for local, national and international hospitality students.

“With South Australia attracting just 3.7 per cent of the international students studying food and hospitality in Australia our state of the art facility will deliver a substantial increase in our share.

“The new International Centre is expected to accommodate at least 800 students per week when it opens and we will seek to double this within five years.

“The location of the International School and our entrepreneurs’ hub will add enormous vibrancy to the East End.

“The old RAH site provides a once in a life time opportunity to deliver a truly great development that will drive South Australia’s future prosperity.

“With our world class produce, wine and restaurants Adelaide is a natural home for a hospitality school of international renown.

“South Australia has had a centre for tourism, hospitality and food studies at Regency Park since the 1970s but those facilities are now tired and outdated making the timing perfect for a new world class training facility in the city to replace them.

“Our new International Centre will accommodate the world renowned Le Cordon Bleu and ICHM training programs, as well as those offered by TAFE at Regency.

“The potential for a major hotel development on the site enhances the synergies of our plan with industry placements that are a vital part of hospitality and food industry training programs.”
