Premier Steven Marshall today announced that Dr Chris McGowan will be the new Chief Executive of SA Health, replacing current CE Vickie Kaminski.
“I’m delighted to welcome Dr McGowan to the important role of Chief Executive of SA Health, the largest Department in the State Government,” said Premier Marshall.
“Dr McGowan, who is currently the CEO of Silver Chain and has long-standing experience in both the public and private health sector, is the ideal candidate to take SA Health into a new era.
“I’d also like to express my thanks to Vickie Kaminski for her efforts as CE of SA Health.
“Ms Kaminski has been a model of professionalism while tackling the demanding task of administering South Australia’s health system.
“Ms Kaminski’s decision to provide a transition period with Dr McGowan is a measure of her commitment to serving the people of South Australia.”
Dr McGowan will begin his role as CE of SA Health on 7 May, Ms Kaminski will finish with SA Health at the end of June.
For the past 10 years, Dr McGowan has been the CEO of Silver Chain Group, which incorporates RDNS in South Australia and provides specialist nursing, palliative care, home care and support services, home hospital and allied health services across Western Australia, South Australia and the East Coast.
Before moving to Western Australia in 2007, Dr McGowan was the Executive Director of Population and Primary Health Care for the Southern Adelaide Health Service and oversaw the construction and commissioning of the first of South Australia’s GP Plus health care centres.
Dr McGowan has also held the role of Chief Executive Officer of Noarlunga Health Services, and has a strong understanding of SA’s public health system.
