Celebrating South Australia’s shining lights in wine tourism

South Australia’s wineries, cellar doors and restaurants are being encouraged to apply to South Australia’s Best of Wine Tourism Awards which opened for applications today.

The awards, which celebrate leadership and innovation in wine tourism as part of the Great Wine Capitals Global Network, have seven distinct categories and are open to local wineries and wine-related businesses delivering outstanding service in the wine sector.

Wine businesses will also have the opportunity to compete against nominees from the World’s other Great Wine Capitals, with the international awards program to be presented as part of the Great Wine Capitals Annual General Meeting this November in Adelaide.

Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development Tim Whetstone said it is important South Australia’s wine success stories continue to be recognised.

“The Marshall Liberal Government continues to support the state’s growing $2.35 billion wine industry and the ongoing creativity and innovation amongst our wine businesses,” said Minister Whetstone.

“These awards raise the bar for local wineries and wine-tourism business as recipients have the opportunity to compete on a global stage alongside businesses from some of the most well-known wine regions in the world – such as Bordeaux and the Napa Valley.

“South Australia is fortunate to be home to a huge selection of world-class and unique wine tourism experiences across 18 distinct wine regions and I encourage wine businesses to apply.”

Chapel Hill winery in McLaren Vale won the local Best of Wine Tourism Award in the Architecture and Landscape category last year.

“To be recognised for finding new, fun and creative ways to attract tourists and ultimately sell our wine has been very rewarding,” Chapel Hill Winery Retail and Marketing Manager Bodhi Edwards said.

“The application process was easy and caused us to think deeply about why we do what we do and how we could improve; I recommend it to any winery who has pride in their venue and product.”

The Best of Wine Tourism Award categories open to South Australian wineries or wine related business are: Accommodation, Wine Tourism Restaurants, Sustainable Wine Tourism Practices, Architecture and Landscape, Art and Culture, Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences and Wine Tourism Services.

Applications for the awards can be made before 31 August 2018 at www.adelaidegreatwinecapital.com/awards
