Thousands of visitors are expected to flock to the Eyre Peninsula this weekend to be part of the annual Ceduna Oysterfest.
Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, David Ridgway, said the festival is a great opportunity to sample some of the best oysters in Australia.
The festival is expected to attract over 7,000 people – with half of visitors travelling from interstate and intrastate.
“The Marshall Liberal Government is a proud supporter of Ceduna Oysterfest which highlights South Australia’s internationally-acclaimed food and wine credentials,” said Minister Ridgway.
“Program highlights include MasterChef Australia alumni Callum Hann and his Sprout business partner Themis Chryssidis hosting an interactive food demonstration.”
“This is a fantastic opportunity to get people out and about in our regions, driving money into our local visitor economy and supporting our hardworking local businesses.”
Ceduna Oysterfest will also feature live music, carnival amusement stalls, art workshops and its signature ‘Oyster Shuck & Eat’ competition.
South Australian Tourism Commission, Chief Executive, Rodney Harrex said supporting regional events like Ceduna Oysterfest was part of the SATC’s long-term strategy to increase tourism across the state.
“It’s pleasing to see South Australians exploring their own backyard, with many travelling to the event by road and spending tourism dollars along the way,” said Mr Harrex.
“Our regional businesses and families rely heavily on a thriving tourism industry, receiving 41 per cent of the total $6.7 billion visitor expenditure – so it is important to get out there and support regional SA. “
“Each dollar spent helps the local community and will help South Australia get closer to its $8 billion visitor economy target for 2020.”
Ceduna Oysterfest will take place from 28 September – 30 September 2018. For more information, visithttps://www.ceduna.sa.gov.au/oysterfest
