Our heritage - our future
With origins dating back to 1891 the South Australian Division of the Liberal Party boasts a rich history of success, built upon the efforts of many thousands of members and supporters.
Since the foundation of the Liberal and Country League in 1933, the LCL and its successor – the modern Liberal Party – have dominated the government benches, both in South Australia and at a national level.
Liberal legends such as Sir Robert Menzies and Sir Thomas Playford have been born as a result of the hard work and determination of committed Liberals who have: - Shaped the philosophy and platform of the Liberal Party;
- Campaigned tirelessly for the election campaigned tirelessly for the election of Liberal candidates; and
- Driven the development and implementation of sound policy by implementation of sound policy by Liberal Governments.
Such are their efforts that the real legends of the Liberal Party lie not just with names like Menzies or Playford, but stretch to the grassroots supporters of our organization and our philosophies.
While the Labor Party has relied upon the financial and organisational support of the union movement for survival, thousands of ordinary South Australians – men, women, families and businesses – have stepped forward to support the Liberal cause.
Liberal supporters give countless hours of volunteer effort to our Party, candidates and governments. Underlying this is the willingness of supporters to make sacrifices for our shared Liberal cause – to give not just of their own time and effort, but to give from their own resources and funds.
In this modern age, a solid financial base is critical to the success of any political organisation. If we are to create a positive and dynamic future for our Party and continue to serve the interests of ordinary Australians then we must address the income needs of our Division.
Our achievements as a Party are a direct function of our means. Financial security is essential to grow our influence and build an even stronger organisation for all Australians.
