Rau: All talk, no action
Labor’s claimed urgency to tackle organised crime is a smokescreen to deflect from its poor performance on fighting crime.
“Despite having literally years to come back to Parliament with organised crime laws, the delay still continues,” Shadow Attorney-General Stephen Wade said
“Labor is more interested in press coverage than getting the job done.”
Mr Wade said Attorney-General Rau had failed to deliver at least 19 core policy announcements.
Attorney-General Rau had especially failed to deliver any legislative response to organised crime in South Australia, despite two years of promises and months of organised criminal violence happening on the streets.
“This is yet another reform announced by Attorney-General Rau that has failed to materialise. Seven other reforms announced over 2010 and 2011 ranging from DNA reviews, spent convictions, an independent anti-corruption body and fixing dodgy how to vote cards have simply fallen off the agenda,” Mr Wade said
“None of Labor’s 2010 Serious Crime Election Policy promises or new Community Safety Policy election promises have been implemented.
“In fact, the only Community Safety Policy promise that is now in effect had already been law for two years before the election.”
The Hora Report, released by Thinker in Residence Judge Peggy Hora exactly one year ago today, contains 48 recommendations. No formal response has ever been given by the Labor Government and only one recommendation has been brought before Parliament.
“Once again we have been waiting for a year to see the results of grand Labor Government announcements. Once again Labor has failed to deliver,” Mr Wade said.
“Premier Weatherill needs to say whether he still has confidence in Attorney-General Rau or if he is content with Labor misleading the South Australian public with more broken promises.”
