Mark has been married to his wife Tracey for 22 years and has two children.

Growing up on the family property at Houghton, being a local with a background in farming and banking, Mark understands the issues that affect the people of Kavel. Since being elected to Parliament in 2002, Mark has worked hard for our region and has delivered real results for our community.

Including working with health professionals for increased resources to improve the level of health services, in particular delivering additional personnel in the area of mental health care.

Mark has worked to secure in excess of $8.5 million in capital works funding for schools. Our children deserve a good education which is fundamental to their development and Mark will continue to fight to make sure our kids get the support they need.

With crime becoming more and more of a problem under State Labor, Mark campaigned strongly for a new police station at Mt Barker, with increased police resources. With the police station being built, Mark is continuing to fight for greater protection by demanding further increases in the number of police officers at Mt Barker and other stations in Kavel.

Electorate Profile

August Ludwig Christian Kavel, (1798-1860), a Lutheran pastor, came to South Australia with 200 of his German flock in 1838 seeking religious freedom. The original party, and succeeding groups of German migrants, made a lasting contribution to South Australia's development.

Area: approx. 979.6 km²

Location: To the east of the Adelaide area, this Adelaide Hills district includes residential and farming areas. Subject to boundary changes at the 2007 redistribution.
