New India strategy more of the same
At a large gathering of business and community leaders at the KPMG Annual Australia India Address, Premier Weatherill missed an important opportunity to announce any increased trade with India, leaving recommendations of the Hartley Review sitting on the shelf.
“The Government has taken far too long to implement the recommendations of the Hartley Review which was released in April this year,” Shadow Minister for Industry and Trade Steven Marshall said.
“The Hartley Review highlighted several inefficiencies with South Australia’s export industry and clearly showed that overseas trade offices were not working.
“Of these key recommendations aimed at improving South Australia’s export approach, none have come to fruition.
“This Government has shown no sense of urgency to implement new strategies which will support South Australia’s export industry, which is currently in complete disarray.
“The Premier has had several opportunities to announce a new strategy which would help South Australia to reach its already delayed target of $25 billion worth of exports by 2012, but these opportunities have continually been missed.
“After 10 years, the Labor Government has run out of ideas to stimulate South Australia’s export economy and unfortunately we can only expect to see more of the same from this Government.”
