Minister needs to focus on Defence not gardens
While the Weatherill Government has committed $5.4 million from Defence SA to ‘beautify’ the Lefevre Peninsula, peak industry body the Defence Teaming Centre (DTC) has no funding confirmed beyond the 30th of June this year.
The Defence Teaming Centre has previously enjoyed strong bi-partisan support since it was established in 1995, due to its important role in promoting the industry and helping Defence SA win numerous contracts.
Defence Minister Snelling has previously praised the Defence Teaming Centre’s work, stating in Parliament in November last year that the Government worked with the DTC to:
“ensure that South Australian firms gain greater access into global supply chains, particularly for international programs such as the joint strike fighter project”.

“Mr Snelling needs to stand up and explain what his priorities are now for defence industries in South Australia,” Shadow Minister for Defence Industries Steven Marshall said.
“Despite Mr Snelling praising the Defence Teaming Centre’s work, the DTC faces an uncertain future, with no money from the Defence SA budget allocated to them after this financial year.
“However, there is money available for public art installations, fishing wharves and gardens on the Lefevre Peninsula.
“Former Premier Rann and former Defence Minister Foley were 100 per cent committed to defence industries in South Australia, but Premier Weatherill and Minister Snelling’s commitment is yet to be determined.
“The Liberal Opposition is calling on Mr Snelling to confirm his Government’s previous commitments to the DTC and maintain their budget in the future.”
