Mining regulator needs greater presence on Eyre Peninsula
Both minerals exploration and agriculture on Eyre Peninsula would benefit significantly from the Government regulator taking a more active role in the region.
Liberal Member for Flinders Peter Treloar is calling on the Department of Manufacturing, Innovation, Trade, Resources and Energy (DMITRE) to deploy greater staffing resources dedicated to the Eyre Peninsula.
“I believe the role of a properly resourced regulator is critical to the satisfactory administration of the Mining Act,” Mr Treloar said.
“There is an enormous amount of exploration activity going on at the moment and it is imperative that all parties are aware of, and act within, the legislation.
“Both land-owners and the exploration companies will benefit from DMITRE having an increased presence on Eyre Peninsula.
“This Government has spruiked the benefits of a mining boom in this State for a decade – now is the time to back up the rhetoric with some tangible actions.”
Mining companies with exploration licenses are currently drilling in various locations, with tenements covering much of Eyre Peninsula.
