Survival of SANFL Mini League
Shadow Minister for Sport & Recreation, Dan van Holst Pellekaan, has welcomed news that the IGA has sponsored the SANFL Mini League.
It was revealed yesterday that if the SANFL was unable to find the $40,000 sponsorship that it required by the start of the Mini League season, thousands of children would miss out on the opportunity to participate in the program.
“I’m sure the Weatherill Labor Government would have been able to help the SANFL with sponsorship, if it did not have a habit of getting its priorities wrong and mismanaging its budget,” Mr van Holst Pellekaan said.
“There have been a number of examples recently of mismanagement from the Labor Government, including:
- $5 million to compensate Marathon Resources for banning mining.
- $6 million to compensate the Newport Quays Consortium for the cancelled Port Adelaide waterfront development.
- At least $68,000 for former Premier Rann’s farewell party last year
“Premier Weatherill also announced that he would give former Premier Rann a golden handshake estimated to be worth $200,000 – another example of a decade of Labor mess and misguided priorities.
“This money alone could have paid for sponsorship of the Mini League program for the next five years.”
