Psst...don’t mention the sale of the forests and lotteries!

Hon Iain Evans MP
Shadow Treasurer
Psst...don’t mention the sale of the forests and lotteries!
Premier Weatherill was too embarrassed to mention the sale of the South-East forests and SA Lotteries Commission in yesterday’s opening speech to Parliament.
The opening of Parliament gives the Government an opportunity to set out its future agenda.
However, in yesterday’s speech there was as much interest as to what was not in the speech as to what was in the speech.
Despite underpinning their budget strategy, Premier Weatherill and the Labor Government were too embarrassed to mention selling the harvesting rights to the South-East forests and selling the SA Lotteries Commission.
Not a mention!
“If it’s such a good policy to sell these assets, why not talk about it in their speech?” Shadow Treasurer Iain Evans questioned.
“The sale is expected to be completed this year and Premier Weatherill could not bring himself to mention the unpopular policy in the speech.
“The sale of the Lotteries Commission did not get a mention either.
“Labor promised no privatisation, but they are privatising the forests and the Lotteries Commission!” Mr Evans said.
