Labor turns its back on small business
Labor is failing to support small business and failing to provide a competitive tax regime in which small business can operate and expand.
ABS data released today shows that in the twelve months to June 2011, only South Australia, Queensland and Tasmania – all Labor governed states – recorded decreases in small business numbers.
The number of small businesses in South Australia dropped by 349 in 2010-11 and the state recorded the lowest rate of small business start ups of all mainland states.
NAB’s monthly business survey for December 2011 further supported these findings showing that business confidence in South Australia was the lowest of the mainland states.
“It’s no coincidence that states held by Labor Governments are recording a decline in the number of small businesses,” Shadow Treasurer Iain Evans said.
“South Australian small businesses are especially feeling the impact of this high-taxing, high-spending Labor Government that has failed to deliver positive economic outcomes for the State – and Labor’s toxic carbon tax won’t help.
“These taxes are hitting small businesses very hard – we are losing small businesses which are the backbone of the state’s economy.
“After ten years of Labor, Treasurer Snelling needs to explain to South Australian small businesses why this Labor Government has turned its back on them.”
