Will Weatherill say how many jobs to go in the Lotteries sale?

Will Weatherill say how many jobs to go in the Lotteries sale?

As the Weatherill Labor Government prepares to sell off our state owned Lotteries Commission, mass redundancies have been announced in the Tasmanian equivalent after it was sold just three months ago.

The Tasmanian Government sold TOTE Tasmania for $103 million in December 2011.

Tatts Group take over TOTE Tasmania next month and job losses are already planned in areas were Tatts already have capacity.

Media reports out of Tasmania today indicate that eighty jobs are to be slashed under private ownership.

‘About 80 jobs at TOTE Tasmania will be lost when the Tatts Group takes over next month.’ (The Mercury, 22/02/2012)

Tatts Group spokesman Michael Mangos said the job losses are;

‘an unavoidable consequence of overlapping functions in similar businesses.’ (The Mercury, 22/02/2012)

“Mr Weatherill has the opportunity to explain how many job losses are expected when the South Australian Lotteries are sold”, Shadow Treasurer Iain Evans said.

“If the Weatherill Government insists on proceeding with the sale of SA Lotteries, it is imperative that Mr Weatherill explains how many jobs are to go as a result of the sale.

“The Lotteries Commission is being sold by the Government to try and fix ten years of Labor’s budget mess.

“After selling the Lotteries Commission and the South East Forest the state debt still increases from $8 billion to over $11 billion” Mr Evans exclaimed.
