Today’s ABS figures reveal that the number of South Australians in full-time jobs in January 2012 is lower than January last year.
After a year of announcements, promises and even a change in Premier, Labor has only been able to deliver part-time jobs in South Australia.
There were 1,300 fewer full-time jobs in South Australia in January 2012, compared to December 2011.
“It is hardly surprising that employers in South Australia won’t commit to full-time staff when South Australian businesses have the highest taxes and the worst business confidence in Australia under the Weatherill Labor Government,” Shadow Employment Minister David Pisoni said.
“With fewer full-time jobs, South Australians will feel less confident with less money to spend, which also goes a long way to explaining our poor retail sales.
“Labor made an election promise exactly two years ago to create 100,000 new jobs, but at this rate they won’t even meet half their target.
“Today’s job figures also do not take into account the recent job cuts announced by Qantas, the banks and Holden.
“Premier Weatherill must explain why South Australians have fewer opportunities after ten years of a Labor Government.”
