SA wage growth lags behind
The average weekly earnings of South Australians are the worst of all mainland states, according to ABS statistics released today.
South Australians earn $926.60 on average each week compared to a national average of $1032.70.
SA wage growth in the last 12 months was also the second worst in the nation at 3 per cent, compared to Australia’s growth of 3.7 per cent.
Shadow Minister for Employment David Pisoni said after a decade of Labor mess, South Australian families were struggling to cope with the rising cost of living.
“The cost of utilities is increasing more than wages and households are struggling to cope,” Mr Pisoni said.
“This follows last month’s CommSec report which showed that consumer prices in South Australia were the fastest growing in the nation. Meanwhile, utility bills and state taxes are also rising at an ever higher rate than inflation.
“Premier Weatherill needs to explain to South Australians why we are in this position after ten years of Labor.”
