Dan comes from a very hard working family. His Dutch father migrated to Australia as a boy just prior to World War II and later became an agricultural economist, married an Australian girl and they had three children together. Honesty and effort were the values most highly impressed upon Dan by his family.

Dan started his working life doing labouring, construction and maintenance as a teenager, which has given him a first-hand understanding of the pressures placed on workers. He also played a lot of sport including four seasons in the National Basketball League in his early 20's.

While playing in the NBL, Dan put himself through University and gained a Bachelor of Economics degree including winning an award for highest final year results. He then worked for BP Australia for ten years and was Distributor Marketing Manager responsible for SA, WA, NT and FNQ when he decided to move into private enterprise in Outback South Australia. This has given him a good understanding of the problems faced by local businesses.

In January 2006, Dan and his wife, Rebecca who is a nurse, moved to Wilmington where they plan to live for the rest of their lives.

For more than 22 years, Dan has worked all over the Electorate of Stuart - in Port Augusta, Kapunda, the Riverland, the Outback and Mid North. He has invested his time, effort and personal resources into the area and has a passion for community involvement and leadership.

Dan has been an employee and an employer. He has been successful in big and small business, but is also focused on the many other more important aspects of life.

A strong local advocate, Dan will always work to ensure that the people of Stuart receive their fair share of the State's resources and opportunities. That's why he will stand up for the people living in the regional communities within Stuart.

Dan believes that the people of Stuart have been badly neglected by the Weatherill Government and that we have not been getting our fair share. Dan is fighting for more support for country health and aged care services and support. He is passionate about getting more funding to upgrade our country roads.

Dan believes South Australia needs a fairer deal on water allocations from the Murray-Darling system and that greater investments need to be made in water infrastructure to provide for our water security.
