Fox fails again on bus fines

Transfield Services has been fined $70,000 by the Transport Department for the June quarter after a review found that buses on its north-south route were only on schedule for 52.2 per cent of the time.

In the March quarter, Transfield was fined $121,345 with buses on the same north-south route only running on schedule for 51.6 per cent of the time.

Southlink and Torrens Transit were not fined this quarter.

“Minister Fox must explain why Transfield’s fine this quarter is significantly less compared to the previous quarter, when the number of buses running on time had hardly improved at all,” Shadow Transport Minister Vickie Chapman said.

“Just last week, it was revealed that patronage on Adelaide’s public transport system had dropped by 2.44 million boardings in the past year.

“It is clear that South Australians had lost all confidence in our buses and public transport system under this Labor Government.

“People need to have a safe, clean, and reliable service to get to work and school but at the moment that is not being provided.

“The September quarter figures will confirm if the Government’s strategy has had any impact, but so far the complaints continue daily.”
