Has Labor decided to sell three forest rotations, not two?
The Weatherill Labor Government has decided to forward sell harvesting rights to the South East Forests.
In the Regional Impact Statement relating to the sale, the Labor Government said:
“The divestment model includes divestment of two rotations of plantation harvest with the option of a third.”
In an interview with the Financial Review, Premier Weatherill is reported as telling the paper that the Government is:
“Committed to the sale of three forward harvests from the state owned forests.”
This indicates that the decision to sell three rotations, and not two, has been taken by the Labor Government.
“Premier Weatherill needs to confirm that the Labor Government has decided to sell three rotations,” Shadow Treasurer Iain Evans said.
“The above comments, attributed to the Premier, were made before the Government had received bids for the purchase, which closed yesterday.
“The Premier needs to confirm they have decided to sell three rotations and not two before they even received the bids,” Mr Evans said.
